the story behind koir

THE STORY OF KOIR
KOIR takes its name from coir, the natural coconut fiber found throughout Kerala, India.
KOIR was born from a personal period of renewal and more than a decade working across buying, styling, luxury retail, vintage sourcing, and brand building. I learned to value pieces not only for how they look, but for their fabric, construction, fit, and lasting appeal.
The wardrobes I admire most are collected over time, combining new discoveries, vintage finds, travel pieces, and reworked garments. KOIR follows that same approach. Every piece is personally sourced, inspected, and selected for its character and quality.
ROOTED IN CRAFT, SHAPED BY PLACE
My family roots trace back to Kerala, where clothing was deeply connected to expression, craftsmanship, fabric, and draping. That influence continues through KOIR’s fluid silhouettes, wrap details, and thoughtful use of texture.
My style is also shaped by living between Aspen and New York City, combining western influence with New York’s edge. Travel, independent boutiques, and vintage discoveries add to the collection’s eclectic point of view.
Some vintage pieces are personally altered or reworked, giving them a new life while preserving their history.
THE ’70s, ’80s, AND ’90s
KOIR draws inspiration from the ease and sensuality of the ’70s, the confidence and glamour of the ’80s, and the minimal, effortless sensuality of the ’90s.
Rather than recreate any decade literally, I mix elements from each through fluid silhouettes, suede, leather, denim, strong proportions, slip dresses, sheer fabrics, and minimal tailoring.
Vintage remains central because certain fabrics, details, and constructions are rarely made the same way today. Often, there is only one piece, and that is part of its appeal.
FASHION AS TRANSFORMATION
Fashion can change the way you carry yourself. The right piece can make you feel more confident, sensual, and connected to yourself.
THE THREADS THAT INSPIRE US
KOIR brings together modern pieces, vintage finds, minimal silhouettes, global influences, and subtle references to Indian draping.
Inspiration might come from a ’70s suede jacket, a vintage ’90s dress, western details from Aspen, a small boutique discovered while traveling, or unexpected street style in New York.
The common thread is simple: each piece must feel special.
A CURATED CLOSET WITH PURPOSE
KOIR is not built around trends. It is a collection of pieces chosen for their silhouette, fabric, drape, construction, and individuality.
The collection includes limited-run boutique pieces, vintage finds, one-of-one garments, and vintage pieces personally altered or reworked. Each item is inspected, styled, packed, and shipped in house.
KOIR is meant to feel like access to a well-collected closet: personal, unexpected, and built over time.
